Simpson has long been an Australian sporting icon. Originally owned by Stanley Simpson who first manufactured football shorts in 1937, the Simpson logo with the famous kangaroo and crown, is synonymous with Australia.

 The Simpson business grew quickly in Australia, and by the 50’s became well known to many sporting personalities. The brand was so popular amongst the sporting industry that Simpson was chosen to outfit the Australian Olympic teams in 1948, 1952 & 1956. By 1960, more than half of the final competitors at Wimbledon were dressed by Simpson. The brand was worn not only by such tennis greats as Tony Roche, Neil Fraser, Frank Sedgman and John Newcombe, but also track & field athletes such as John Landy embraced the brand along with the women’s world squash champion, Sarah Fitzgerald. 

 In the 1970's, Simpson faced very strong opposition from well established tennis wear manufacturers such as Fred Perry and Lacoste, and therefore created a sponsorship alliance with the Davis Cup team in order to cement Simpson’s credibility and prestige.
